We are currently using Workgroup PDM.

Sharepoint has proven to be a good tool for sharing office type documents in our design groups but as Brian mentioned, it doesn't understand the SolidWorks file relationships at all. Brava! (The product I mentioned in a comment above) at one time had something posted to their site about SolidWorks integration with Sharepoint but now it only appears to be a viewer.

I have also found that Sharepoint's user interface doesn't seem to match up with most CAD based PDM packages I have seen.

That's all the information I have for now. If I see anything else on it, I'll let you know.

Ricky

Re: SharePoint

Chris,

Do you mean using Sharepoint as a PDM tool for SolidWorks? If so, I would highly recommend against that, as Sharepoint knows nothing of SolidWorks file relationships.

Talk to Rich Hall, his company was trying to force them to use Sharepoint instead of a SolidWorks/CAD-centric PDM solution.

That said, Sharepoint should work well to share data with customers/vendors or to manage PDF's or whatnot after you "toss your design over the wall".

Re: SharePoint

Do any of you have further experience now with Sharepoint and SolidWorks?

Re: SharePoint

Pam,

The only package I have found that supports SharePoint with SolidWorks is Brava! from Informative Graphics. I know nothing about the capabilities or features of this software at this point so explore at your own risk. :-)

Please e-mail me using the link at the top left hand corner of the page when you get a chance and we can discuss it more.

Best Regards,

Ricky Jordan

Re: SharePoint

Ricky,

We are looking to install WSS and possbily MOSS 2007 on our intranet. Our engineers use SolidWorks and are looking for a document management solution. Have you had any experience using the two applications together? If so, I would be interested in your feedback.

Thank you,
Pam

Re: SharePoint

Ricky,
I used SharePoint at my last company and found it to be a great tool, assuming everyone, who was supposed to, used it. It's easy to set up and manage, and a great way to store documents that need to be revision managed or just controlled.
I'm sure you'll have no problems figuring it out.

Jeff

Re: SharePoint

Hi Ricky-

I am very interested in learning more about Microsoft SharePoint 2007.

Briefly, what are just a few of its features and benefits?

Devon

Devon T.
