Is it possible to insert picture from photoshop on to part or face? It would be a great feature to have. for ieg: if u want to present watch and u dont want to present watch mechanism so u just put watch mechanism picture instead and focus on outside design...

Do they improve the usage of multicore CPUs in Soldiworks /Cosmos (now: SW Simulation)?

Do you notice a great speed improvement?

Jerry,

Have you tried the Insert->Pictures command in Drawings? This was a new addition to SolidWorks 2008. It works pretty much exactly like the Sketch Picture command in Parts/Assemblies. It requires you to place the label twice if you are still doing it in the models, but this would get your label on the drawing. The Insert Pictures command handles MANY image formats. It even allows Adobe Photoshop files to be inserted.

This of course will only work for labels on flat surfaces. For curved surfaces I have seen some folks put labels by using a custom texture (you have to really do some fine tuning on the scaling and will need a proportional split face) but I haven't had much success with that myself. Hi Ricky. I suppose you have some clout, and definitely knowledge concerning SW.

I put in an enhancement request concerning labels. Labels are very import to most businesses, and yet I hate how SW handles them.

I realize that there is a decal function in Photoworks. We have chosen not to use this function. We don't turn on Photoworks - and if it is not on it will not display the label (decal) properly in drawings.

Here's how we do it for expediency. We open a sketch on the face we want to place a label. We then use Insert Picture and search for a saved graphic. This graphic can be obtained from Google Images or created by us (i.e. Agency graphics, serial labels, etc...). Well, this is all fine and dandy in the part/assembly mode, but when placed in a drawing - nothing comes up. I suppose drawings cannot display bitmaps. I find this very disturbing. We want quick and dirty. Our labels are just representations of the final production label. They do not have to look pretty.

Please do not say - "Use Photoworks". I want something quick, simple and expedient.

Any thoughts on this?????

I'm running SolidWorks 2008 right now and noticed that they have the numbers on the various tools for the rectangle, circle, and arc commands. I'll look at 2009 tonight and see if there are any more.

Ricky, I'm looking at your picture of the 'Slot' tool and was wondering, I like the way they describe the different types of slots with numbers (steps), has this been done on any other multiple type tool features?

Neil,

I'll see what I can do to get some good examples when I write my post about the Freeform feature as well as some additional information on whats going on with the patch U-V vs. the Freeform mesh U-V.

I have had a few crashes, but almost all of them was a bug related to a particular new feature in Beta1. That bug has been fixed in Beta2. Honestly, this has been a very stable release. I would have to say it is the most stable Beta I have worked with. I have spoke with some of the other Beta testers and they generally have had the same experience. I'll continue to all the way up to SP0. If I see anything noteworthy, I will post it.

Hello Mr Jordan, tidy wee site you have here these days..
I dont want to detract from your 09 rollout enthusiasm but I must admit I am a bit confused about what exactly being able to rotate the preview mesh achieves if the underlying UV stays put for these patches, especially if the user is someone inclined to obsess about continuity. Perhaps you can give a video demo later showing how to use this new tool to its best potential. Maybe someone at SW will supply some examples or insider info - as you know the Whats New isnt exactly overflowing with detail about some things

Hi Tim,

U-V mesh is probably a bad choice of words on my part. I saw that forum post and how it wasn't changing the U-V of the actual patch. What I was trying to get across was that it changes the U-V directions of the preview mesh which is what the curves and points are based on. Still...good catch. :-)

Ricky, there is an enhacement on doing motion analysis on layout sketches which i'm interested in , could you please write a review on this enhancement? i guess it needs cosmosmotion.
